Coming to the end

Hello everyone,

I've really enjoyed reading your writing on your blogs and I hope that you've learned a few things along the way.  The internet has a lot of tools that you can use to experience language in a collaborative and communicative way.  I sincerely hope that you will consider using a blog as a place where you can publish your thoughts and ideas and stay connected with all of your classmates and friends through English.

Collaborative Writing Project

Hello ELS friends!

Welcome to my blog about our writing skills class.  I hope you follow along with me as I talk about what we are doing in class.  Feel free to add any comments below, too!

Collaborative Writing Project + Individual Blog Launch

Step One:  I gave each student in the class just one picture from a ten-card picture story and asked them to write around 10 words, phrases or collocations about the picture.  Here's what the board looked like after the students wrote their words...

Step Two:  I asked the students to predict what the story was about using the words, but since all the pictures were out of order, this task was difficult.  I asked the students to find words that repeated.  I noticed the word flower on the right side of the board and circled it.

Step Three:  I gave the students all the pictures from the story and they put the picture in orders.  Each group then came to the board to write a couple of sentences up about just two of their pictures (so every group could contribute).  And then the board looked like this....

Step Four: The students now have to rewrite the story, add more detail, correct grammar mistakes and most importantly add more cohesion to this text.  They will do this in their own blogs!

Results coming soon...
